TOUR OVERVIEW

Your Kilimanjaro adventure begins when you arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO). Our representative will meet you at the airport and transfer you to your hotel in Moshi.

You will have time to rest after your flight and prepare for the adventure ahead. Before the trek, you will meet your professional mountain guide for a detailed briefing and equipment check.

The following morning, you begin the 8-day Lemosho Route, taking you through lush rainforest, beautiful moorland, the Shira Plateau and the dramatic alpine desert before reaching the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro.

Your experienced mountain crew will accompany you throughout the journey, helping you maintain a slow and steady pace as you acclimatize to the increasing altitude.

DAY 1 – ARRIVAL AT KILIMANJARO INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT → MOSHI

Accommodation: Hotel in Moshi
Meals: Dinner

Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport, our representative will warmly welcome you.

You will then be transferred to your hotel in Moshi for check-in and rest.

Later, you will meet your mountain guide for a pre-trek briefing. Your guide will explain the route, safety procedures, altitude acclimatization and summit plan.

Your trekking equipment will also be checked to ensure that you are properly prepared.

Overnight: Hotel in Moshi.

DAY 2 – MOSHI → LEMOSHO GATE → BIG TREE CAMP

Elevation: Approximately 2,100 m → 2,780 m
Distance: Approximately 6 km
Trekking time: 3–4 hours
Habitat: Rainforest
Meals: Breakfast, lunch and dinner

After breakfast, drive from Moshi to the western side of Mount Kilimanjaro.

At Lemosho Gate, your guide will complete the registration and park formalities.

You then begin your trek through the lush montane rainforest. The trail is surrounded by beautiful vegetation and, with luck, you may spot some of the area's wildlife and birdlife.

After several hours, arrive at Big Tree Camp.

Dinner will be served at camp before you settle in for your first night on the mountain.

Overnight: Big Tree Camp.

DAY 3 – BIG TREE CAMP → SHIRA 1 CAMP

Elevation: 2,780 m → 3,505 m
Distance: Approximately 8 km
Trekking time: 5–7 hours
Habitat: Rainforest → Moorland
Meals: Breakfast, lunch and dinner

After breakfast, continue climbing through the changing landscape.

The dense rainforest gradually gives way to open moorland as you gain altitude.

You will eventually reach the spectacular Shira Plateau, where the landscape opens up and views toward Kibo become increasingly impressive.

Continue to Shira 1 Camp for dinner and overnight rest.

Overnight: Shira 1 Camp.

DAY 4 – SHIRA 1 CAMP → SHIRA 2 CAMP → BARRANCO CAMP

Elevation: 3,505 m → 3,960 m
Distance: Approximately 10–15 km
Trekking time: 6–8 hours
Habitat: Moorland → Alpine Desert
Meals: Breakfast, lunch and dinner

Today is an important acclimatization day.

You cross the beautiful Shira Plateau before continuing toward higher elevations.

The trail takes you toward Lava Tower, reaching approximately 4,600 m, before descending toward Barranco Camp.

This "climb high, sleep lower" approach gives your body valuable exposure to altitude while allowing you to sleep at a lower elevation.

As you approach Barranco Camp, you will see the spectacular Barranco Wall rising dramatically above the camp.

Overnight: Barranco Camp.

DAY 5 – BARRANCO CAMP → KARANGA CAMP

Elevation: 3,960 m → 4,035 m
Distance: Approximately 5–7 km
Trekking time: 4–5 hours
Habitat: Alpine Desert
Meals: Breakfast, lunch and dinner

After breakfast, begin the famous ascent of the Barranco Wall.

With the assistance of your experienced guide, you will climb steadily over the wall and reach the top, where you can enjoy magnificent views of Kibo and the surrounding landscape.

Continue across the Karanga Valley toward Karanga Camp.

The relatively short trekking day gives you time to rest and prepare for the higher elevations ahead.

Overnight: Karanga Camp.

DAY 6 – KARANGA CAMP → BARAFU CAMP

Elevation: 4,035 m → 4,640 m
Distance: Approximately 4–6 km
Trekking time: 4–5 hours
Habitat: Alpine Desert
Meals: Breakfast, lunch and dinner

Today you make your way toward Barafu Camp, the final high camp before the summit.

The vegetation becomes increasingly sparse and the terrain more rocky as you approach the summit zone.

Upon arrival at Barafu Camp, your guide will give you a detailed summit briefing and check your equipment.

You will have an early dinner before going to bed.

Try to rest as much as possible because the summit attempt begins around midnight.

Overnight: Barafu Camp.

DAY 7 – BARAFU CAMP → UHURU PEAK → MILLENNIUM CAMP

Summit elevation: 5,895 m
Trekking time: Approximately 12–15 hours
Habitat: Alpine Desert → Arctic
Meals: Breakfast, lunch and dinner

SUMMIT DAY – THE ROOF OF AFRICA

Around midnight, you wake up and have a light breakfast before beginning your summit ascent.

You climb slowly through the darkness toward Stella Point on the crater rim.

The ascent is challenging, but your guide and mountain crew will support and encourage you throughout the climb.

From Stella Point, continue along the crater rim toward Uhuru Peak at 5,895 metres, the highest point in Africa.

UHURU PEAK

Reach the summit and celebrate your achievement at the Roof of Africa.

Take photographs and enjoy the extraordinary views when weather conditions allow.

After spending a short time at the summit, begin your descent.

Continue down toward Millennium Camp, where you will have dinner and finally enjoy a well-earned rest.

Overnight: Millennium Camp.

DAY 8 – MILLENNIUM CAMP → MWEKA GATE → MOSHI / JRO

Elevation: Approximately 3,800 m → 1,640 m
Distance: Approximately 12 km
Trekking time: 4–6 hours
Meals: Breakfast and lunch

After breakfast, begin your final descent through the lush rainforest toward Mweka Gate.

At the gate, complete the final park procedures and receive your Kilimanjaro summit certificate.

Our vehicle will meet you at Mweka Gate and transfer you back to your hotel in Moshi.

You can enjoy a hot shower, comfortable accommodation and a well-deserved celebration after completing your Kilimanjaro climb.

Depending on your onward travel arrangements, we can transfer you to Kilimanjaro International Airport, or you can continue with a Tanzania safari or Zanzibar holiday.
