6-Day Mount Kilimanjaro Trek – Marangu Route - 6 Days

Day-by-Day Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival in Arusha – Pre-Climb Briefing
Arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) where a friendly representative from Golden Trips Tanzania will greet and transfer you to your accommodation in Arusha. After check-in, relax and unwind at Venice Hotel, a comfortable mid-range hotel with B&B service. Later in the day, meet with your head mountain guide for a full briefing and gear check. If any gear is missing or needs upgrading, rental arrangements will be made on the spot, ensuring you're well prepared for your trek.

Day 2: Marangu Gate (1,830m) to Mandara Hut (2,740m)
After breakfast, drive from Arusha or Moshi to Marangu Gate – the official starting point of the Marangu Route. Complete registration and meet your climbing crew. Begin your trek through Kilimanjaro’s lush montane rainforest, where you may encounter blue monkeys, Colobus monkeys, and a variety of birdlife. The trail is often wet and muddy, so gaiters and trekking poles are strongly recommended.

Day 3: Mandara Hut to Horombo Hut (3,690m)
Leaving the forest behind, ascend through heath and moorland zones, surrounded by giant senecio and lobelia. The trail offers expansive views of Mawenzi Peak, Kilimanjaro’s jagged second summit. Stop along the way for a scenic lunch and photos. Reach Horombo Huts by late afternoon, nestled on a hillside with stunning views of the saddle between Kibo and Mawenzi.

Day 4: Horombo Hut to Kibo Hut (4,695m)
Today’s trek leads you into the high alpine desert, crossing the vast saddle that stretches between Mawenzi and Kibo. The landscape becomes stark and lunar-like, with minimal vegetation. Stop for lunch along the trail and arrive at Kibo Hut in the afternoon. This is the final base before summit day. After an early dinner, you’ll rest in preparation for your midnight ascent.

Day 5: Kibo Hut to Uhuru Peak (5,895m) & Down to Horombo Hut (3,690m)
Begin the summit attempt around midnight. The climb is steep, passing Gillman’s Point (5,685m), where you'll witness a magical sunrise over Africa. Push onward to Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa. Celebrate briefly with photos and take in your incredible achievement before descending back to Kibo Hut for brunch and a short rest. Then continue to Horombo Hut for your final night on the mountain.

Day 6: Horombo Hut to Marangu Gate – Transfer to Hotel
After breakfast, begin your final descent through lush rainforest back to Marangu Gate, where you'll receive your summit certificate. Pause at Mandara Huts for lunch and share heartfelt goodbyes with your crew. A vehicle will transfer you back to your hotel in Moshi or Arusha for a warm shower, a celebratory dinner, and rest.
