Tour Itinerary
Start your day with a short but scenic drive from Moshi to the green foothills of Mount Kilimanjaro. Nestled at 1,800m above sea level, Materuni is known for its ideal coffee-growing conditions and the warm hospitality of the Chagga people.
Upon arrival, you’ll begin your coffee tour at a local Chagga “shamba” (farm). Here, your guide will walk you through the coffee-making process — from picking the red beans to roasting them over a fire and grinding them into fresh powder. You’ll then brew and enjoy your own freshly made cup of Chagga coffee.
Next, prepare for a 45-minute guided hike through lush farmlands, banana and coffee plantations, and forested paths toward the famous Materuni Waterfalls. Along the way, your guide will share insights into local medicinal plants, traditional farming practices, and Chagga cultural history.
Once at the waterfalls, you can relax, take photos, or swim in the refreshing natural pool beneath the 200-ft cascade — an ideal way to cool off after your hike.
You’ll enjoy a packed picnic lunch or a freshly cooked local meal at the village (based on your tour option). For transportation, you can choose between riding a local dala dala (minibus) or traveling comfortably in a private vehicle.
After the experience, your guide will return you safely to Moshi town — refreshed and full of memories!
