6 Days Rongai Route Climbing - 6 days

Tanzania - Climbing Tours

Tour Itinerary
The Rongai Route offers a range of breathtaking scenery, as well as many plant and animal species, and is situated on the northern side of Mount Kilimanjaro. This journey usually lasts six days and includes begins on the mountain's north face, immediately south of the Kenyan border. For the summit ascent, the path combines with the Marangu path. On the southeast face of the mountain, the descent traces the Marangu Route.

Day 1: Rongai Gate to Simba Camp
Drive from the Rongai Gate (1,860 m) to the First Cave Camp (2,600 m) via the lush rainforest. After an early breakfast, you’ll transfer to Rongai, arrange porters, and begin hiking through thin forest, wildlife shelters, fields of maize and potatoes, and Montana forest until you reach Simba Camp, which offers breathtaking views of the plains of Kenya.
Day 2: Simba Camp to Kikelewa Camp
After an early breakfast you will have a steady ascent to the second cave Kikelewa Camp where you will stop for lunch. You leave the direct trail at this point and strike out across the moorland on a smaller path toward Mawenzi side peak to Kikelewa Camp in a sheltered valley. At the Kikelewa Camp you will settle for your dinner and overnight rest.
Day 3: Kikelewa camp to Mawenzi turn hut
Following breakfast, you'll go on a brief but strenuous climb up grassy hills, which will reward you with breathtaking views of the surrounding wilderness all around. Not too long after, you emerge from the flora and reach the Mawenzi Tarn Camp, set in a breathtaking cirque just below Mawenzi Peak's towering spires. Following this journey, you will arrive at the Mawenzi Turn Hut Camp, where you will also be able to witness the breathtaking, undried Lake that has neither an exit nor an inlet. Here, you will have lunch, relax, eat dinner, and spend the night.
Day 4: Mawenzi Tarn hut to Kibo Huts camp
Following an early breakfast, you will travel to Kibo Huts, located at the base of Kibo's crater wall, across the lunar desert that forms the saddle between Kibo Peak and Mawenzi Peak. The remainder of the day should be spent relaxing and getting ready for your summit trip.
Day 5: Kibo Hut to Uhuru Peak and Back to Horombo Hut
Start your ascent to Uhuru Peak (5,895 m) at midnight, taking advantage of the cool night air for better acclimatization. Reach the summit at dawn and enjoy the breathtaking views of the sunrise over the surrounding landscape. Descend back to Horombo Hut (4,700 m) for a well-deserved rest.
Day 6: Horombo Hut to Marangu Gate
You will have a restful night's sleep and then wake up for breakfast, make your way down through the moorland to Mandara Huts, eat lunch, and then head back through the lush woodland to the Marangu park gate, receive or presenting your certificate and complete your descent.
